Andrea Christensen
She didn’t seem to know about NDAA of 2017.
But this is what was so hilarious about the whole conversation:
“We’re not doing it, the FAA is.”
She said that three times. She also said three times that the FAA doesn’t listen to noise complaints. Sounds kinda ignorant given the whole situation.
I mean, it was all a bunch of strong-arm tactics. That’s certainly a way to describe the FAA and I guess it trickles down. A lot about policies. Not very knowledgeable about the current landscape and some potentially pretty big changes at the FAA. “There will be twelve runways…” It says it on the website too. But hey, we’re in charge and you better get used to it sooner rather than later is pretty clear.
And that is what I find so fascinating about nuisance law. “You mean you are going to stand there and say we have the right to harass me in my home.” That is what I said.
Oh. Sustainability. That would be Scott Morrissey, VP Sustainability. That’s the whole problem, these practices are not sustainable.

Bryan,
You may consider this absurd but I actually thought you were going to take care of this, or at least share a detailed plan to make it stop.
I was talking to Andrea Christensen at DIA yesterday–I’m still waiting on that detailed report of traffic, noise, and real estate affected–and she started going on in a derogatory tone about “I know, you used to work for the FBI and…” and it was a strange thing because I never mentioned that to her (we had only spoken briefly, once) or Mike McKee (who you said you know). Earlier, Mike McKee was yelling at me because I called to inform and inquire about the near constant airplane roar here. And I wondered, why don’t you just call Mr. McKee and collect all the pertinent data on behalf of Jefferson County residents?
A couple of months ago I called the commissioners–that’s not quite possible, I left one message. Someone there called me and may have left a message but it was a caller ID-blocked number and I’m in the dark. You were kind enough to call me and we spoke.
Have you ever just picked-up the phone and called a mayor, representative, or even senator? It is a pretty amazing thing. Usually, they want to know and they enjoy listening.
Personally, I missed my calling. I should have been one of those guys in a white shirt and bow tie crouching in the supermarket aisle. Have you ever talked to someone like that? They just want to help people. I know it is a cliche’ but if you ask them they will tell you exactly that.
Anyhoo…. I digress. I just believe that if I get to the right people this problem is solvable.
I followed through with my thought of calling the mayor of Lakewood. I didn’t get through to him but I spoke with an assistant. I told him I was shopping at the Lowe’s on West Colfax in Lakewood and all I could hear was planes flying right over the gardening shop area. Like virtually everyone he said “Yes I hear it but I don’t really know what it is.” Next I am going to call the manager of that Lowe’s. Then, because I don’t know if the mayor ever received my message, I’m going to email everyone on the Lakewood city council.
In other news, I am getting headaches because of the noise. My home is for rent. Probably it will soon be for sale and there is no question I will have to disclose the noise to any potential buyer. Yes, property values and taxes are affected. Please see the link above which includes a letter from the city of Rockville, MD to the FAA administrator: I request that Jeffco be prepared to sue.
Finally, here’s a little blurb from something I sent to someone yesterday:
“We have not received any other complaints,” you said.
That’s my main reason for writing. How many people in Evergreen or Lakewood, or Genessee or Golden have you contacted? How have you educated or informed people? What PSAs or ads have you run? How many mailings have you made? I am probably more familiar with consumer behavior in this than you are. “We have not received any other complaints” is an absolutely meaningless statement. From what I have seen you refuse to collect or disseminate data. It is absurd–people don’t believe it–no on has any idea that DIA would intentionally harass and harm people like this. If you want to know–it doesn’t make any difference, you are disturbing me–you have to ask them.
Thank you. And I really mean it, thank you.

Thank you and wow. You are the director of the Jeffco airport and and this is your “baby” or responsibility? I mean, you are in charge of the airport and this seems like a big task. And I think you were surprised by my vehemence too but I had to get that in–It is really, really bad here.
I still say Jeffco seems under-represented. I just looked it up, Lakewood is 150,000 people, for instance.
Here is a very “real” suggestion. Put up some more noise meters. I don’t know if they are $100 or $1 million, and it could be something as simple as a wireless connection. I’ve said as loudly as I could to those at DIA and FAA I could reach–you have to collect data around here because it is (a) void.
Wow again, Broomfield is a ton away from this part of Jefferson County. I really do think in this day and age there are things people can do from home or work and there are people–not me–who are good at it. “Public meetings,” where/how advertised today? How, where, who–specifically, here? Put more clearly, there must be a way to provide input other than attendance at these meetings.
Can I say? These people are data driven. If not actual noise data, I hope you will look at a map and the frequency, altitude, altitude RE closeness to people, terrain, etc. for this area during your Broomfield meeting.
Thank you for reaching out. If there is anything I can do please let me know.

P.S. I’m sorry, Bryan, I did look into making a noise complaint to your airport and it looked difficult and non-human. So you have a monitoring system there?
